You're alright? Again? The thing was bad, I know it was. Really bad. But all of it was bad. I can heal you more if you need it. The Mist is gone. But maybe I shouldn't right now. I've been drinking. A little. Some. Enough. Maybe enough. Maybe not enough. I'm not sure yet.

How much are you determining to be 'maybe enough'?

[There's a pause in which it can be assumed he's peering into his cup.]

Enough will be when I can step outside without thinking something else is going to happen. It always does. But I can't take anything else right now. I can't. So this will stop it for one night. One night's enough. It has to be.

I'd offer company, but I'm pretty sure I'd pull a stitch or something.

And I'd tell you nothing else was going to happen, but I'm pretty sure that'd be a lie. I'm really bad at talking to drunk people when I'm sober. Can you tell?

Pulling's good. But not stitches. Who even stitches? Not mages. But there was so much and so people had to stitch. It must hurt. It doesn't hurt too much? Because I can heal it better. Probably when I'm sober is better. Better is better.

In what context is pulling good? [a little laugh.]

Sober is definitely better. I don't think I'll be letting you and your drunken mage powers near my stitches right now.

Tug and pull. It's... thing. Means more than the words. Slang. And pulling to safety. Having pull to help. Pull can be good. Maybe not always. Hair, you don't want that pulled.

Uh huh. You're not getting inappropriate on me, are you? [a pause.] I hate my hair getting pulled. That's the worst. My brothers do that sometimes.

I'm never ina-- not inappro-- I always am. But I promise not to pull your hair. I'm not two. Or five. Or a brother.

I promise no hair pulling. Ever. I don't do that. [There's a pause.] I think I promised that already. So it's a double promise. A doubromise. Domise. Doublomise. No. Doubromise. I like that one.

I think you might have. But that's okay; doesn't matter anyway. And 'doubromise' definitely works better than the rest of those, even if it sounds like some weird foreign language.

Foreign lang-- they're not weird. I speak two. Trade and that of my homeland. Though it's not really my home. They sent me away.

That's because they're jerks. Our homeland sent my parents away; I know the feeling. They're still jerks.

Why do they do that? Send away. Send people away who want to be there. They lose. And we lose. Everyone loses.

It's true. Except they sort of won in that case, because my parents were running the Institute in New York City. So someone else didn't have to, obviously. I think the only real loss was to my family.

The Insti-- The... It was bad? And so they wanted no more running?

Well, no. It's good. The Institute's great - it's like a sanctuary, but it's a long way to go from Idris. So hey, if you're exiling a family with a couple of little kids over there anyway? Why not get something out of it?

I don't know. I guess that's how it worked. I was sort of little.
