Exactly. It's super depressing, too. I don't even know if I want to stay here half the time. When my brothers were here, sure. Now? [she just gives a wry laugh.]

I want you here. But that's not reason for you, it's mine. I know. I get it.

[He sighs, drinking again from his glass.]

This isn't really helping. Nothing does.

And I want you here, too. I mean, you actually make this place tolerable.

[she sighs too.]

Doesn't help that I'm being totally depressing.

So am I. It's been that sort of a day. Week. ...Month, really. Worst month here.

Month, definitely. You think it'll get better next month? Only place to go is up, after all.

[Anders snorts.]

I can think of very few ways it can get worse, at least.

That's a start. [she takes another long sip of her drink, tapping her fingertips idly near the Forge.]

You didn't stop drinking, right? You're not allowed to sober up yet.

I sober up far too quickly, but I'm not quite there yet. Onward to more drinking?

[He finishes up his drink and orders another.]

Onwards and upwards, as they say. It's funny because of the double meaning. [a wry sort of laugh, and her attention is back to her drink.]

How do you sober up far too quickly? Is that one of those mage things?

[justice_is_blond]

It's a Warden thing. Our meta... the... meta... [He stops and then says the word very slowly and carefully:] metabolism. Fast, very fast. Hard to get drunk, hard to stay drunk. Takes a lot. Between it and Justice I mostly don't bother trying.

That makes sense. Except now, where it's totally necessary. Tell Justice to lay off a little; he's not helping here.

He's letting me, tonight. He knows. [Anders chuckles grimly.] He doesn't want me broken.

That's because broken doesn't really do him much good, does it? [and this is almost a little weird to talk about, thanks to that one time she sort of liked the guy.]

No. It doesn't. And even when he's being a pain on purpose, he knows what he's doing.

Small blessings. So what're his thoughts on getting drunk?

That it's a waste, except when I need it, which is unfortunately rare in his mind. Far too rare

[she makes a disapproving noise.] He's such a party-pooper. Everyone needs it every once in a while.

He's an asshole. And he doesn't even have his own. Asshole, I mean. Spirits don't. They don't eat, so why would they need one?

[...okay, that gets a laugh.] Spirits are such jerks. You know, mundies rant and rave about how cool they are sometimes? They've obviously never met one.

[justice_is_blond]

[Anders snorts.] They have no idea. We'd be better off without them, some days. A lot of days, really. I'd like to see their faces if they ever met a spirit.

Most days. I dated one once. He didn't have a body. Just one of those spirit-bodies; you know how that goes.

But I'd love to see someone's face when faced with a spirit. Too bad there aren't more of them around here.

How do you date a spirit? And last I checked, so far as I know, there are three here. Justice, Jack Frost, and Pitch. But I'm quite certain Pitch isn't the good sort of spirit.

With great difficulty.

Oh, I guess Jack is sort of a spirit, isn't he? What with being Jack Frost. [she laughs.] I liked him. But I've never met Pitch.

[justice_is_blond]

I wouldn't want to try. I don't know how it would even be... satisfying. Physically. And Pitch is the one that killed Jack. Only Jack won't report it because he doesn't think they can hold Pitch, or punish Pitch, and so Pitch is free to come and go as he pleases.

Well, it was definitely an experience. Not one I'd necessarily do again, but at least I can say I've done it.

[she pauses, sniffing to herself.] Fun. That seems kind of stupid. All of it. Isn't it worth a shot?
