[she pauses, then shrugs to herself; he'll hear a little rustle.]

All right. Give me a second.

[more rustling as she goes to find it; a soft pop of a cork after a few moments.]

Okay. I'm good. You want a toast?

[He gets a refill of his own and waits.]

Let's. To... Hm. Not being dead. That may work. Even though it would be peaceful sometimes.

To not being dead. Because it would be a serious pain in the butt, and would probably hurt.

[and down half that glass goes.]

[He takes part of his drink.]

Now you. If you've toast ideas. But being dead would likely be very painful. For a short time. I'd like to pass. Even if I got to come back.

I'd definitely like to pass. Especially with all the methods of dying they have around here. None of them strike me as all that fun.

[she pauses, thinking.]

[And he does, taking another drink.]

I hear you. [a little laugh, a pause while she takes a large-ish gulp.] It probably helps that I met you as Anders first, mage second.

To having jobs that are intrinsically linked to who we are?

That is much too big a word. Drink more. But yes.

[Anders sips, giving her a chance to catch up a little, perhaps.]

[she just laughs, then downs the rest of the glass, ending it with a well-placed hiccough. Because really, wine is not made for chugging. She's a classy lady. She replies as she pours herself another glass.]

I hear you there. Warlocks are some of my favourite people. And what would I do without runes? Probably die or something equally lame.

Too lame. Don't do that. I'd be more than sad.

[He swirls his drink around, making make slooshing noises.]

Too many have gone.

Way too many. It's like there's nothing we can even do about it. We're just doomed to watch them all go.

One after another. And I want to stay here, but if everyone goes what's the point? All gone, freedom becomes empty.

Exactly. It's super depressing, too. I don't even know if I want to stay here half the time. When my brothers were here, sure. Now? [she just gives a wry laugh.]

I want you here. But that's not reason for you, it's mine. I know. I get it.

[He sighs, drinking again from his glass.]

This isn't really helping. Nothing does.

And I want you here, too. I mean, you actually make this place tolerable.

[she sighs too.]

Doesn't help that I'm being totally depressing.

So am I. It's been that sort of a day. Week. ...Month, really. Worst month here.

Month, definitely. You think it'll get better next month? Only place to go is up, after all.

[Anders snorts.]

I can think of very few ways it can get worse, at least.

That's a start. [she takes another long sip of her drink, tapping her fingertips idly near the Forge.]

You didn't stop drinking, right? You're not allowed to sober up yet.

I sober up far too quickly, but I'm not quite there yet. Onward to more drinking?

[He finishes up his drink and orders another.]

Onwards and upwards, as they say. It's funny because of the double meaning. [a wry sort of laugh, and her attention is back to her drink.]

How do you sober up far too quickly? Is that one of those mage things?

It's a Warden thing. Our meta... the... meta... [He stops and then says the word very slowly and carefully:] metabolism. Fast, very fast. Hard to get drunk, hard to stay drunk. Takes a lot. Between it and Justice I mostly don't bother trying.

That makes sense. Except now, where it's totally necessary. Tell Justice to lay off a little; he's not helping here.

He's letting me, tonight. He knows. [Anders chuckles grimly.] He doesn't want me broken.
